So much to Sea at Sound School

Pupils were shown how simple it is to prepare and cook megrim, octopus, crab, mackerel, scallops and mussels, before getting a taste of the finished dishes.

Marian explained to the pupils where the fish had been caught and sourced, the nutritional value, and demonstrated how fresh seafood can be prepared and cooked in a matter of minutes.

Marian said: “I thoroughly enjoyed spending the morning with such an enthusiastic group of children and having the opportunity to demonstrate how easy seafood is to prepare. They were very open to tasting the different species. The megrim, in particular, proved very popular.”

Primary five teachers, Laura McIntyre and Louise Hunter said that it was a great opportunity for the pupils to see the different types of seafood. “It was thoroughly enjoyed by all. The children were impressed by how easy it seemed to cook lots of lovely dishes.”

Chief Executive of Seafood Shetland Ruth Henderson said: “We don’t always appreciate the variety and quality of fish and shellfish in the waters around Shetland, and it is always a pleasure to have the opportunity to demonstrate how fortunate we are to have such a resource on our doorstep.”
